MacGregor Schoolwear Scales Digital Commerce with Znode
Situation
MacGregor Schoolwear, a division of MacGregor Industrial Supplies, provides branded uniforms to over 100 schools across the UK. As one of its fastest-growing business units, the schoolwear division serves B2C and B2B buyers through its ecommerce storefront. The product catalogs, purchasing workflows, and fulfillment expectations are highly specialized, shaped by school-specific requirements and regional delivery constraints.
Challenge
MacGregor Schoolwear’s legacy ecommerce platform was not adequately integrated with its ERP, INFOR CSD. It lacked the flexibility and automation needed to support efficient operations. Manual processes like re-keying orders into the ERP slowed down fulfillment and increased the risk of errors during peak season. These inefficiencies prevented full automation across the order lifecycle.
The legacy platform lacked standard B2B features such as account specific pricing, self-service portals, and role-based access. It was not optimized for mobile - despite 84% of traffic coming from mobile devices - leading to poor usability and low conversion rates. These gaps made it difficult to effectively serve both institutional buyers and parents.
MacGregor Schoolwear also faced challenges with payment processing options. The system offered limited integration options, particularly around UK-based payment providers. The platform also lacked support for GDPR and VAT compliance, and lacked the ability to deliver relevant content to users at different stages of the buying process.
The legacy platform was highly customized and difficult to maintain without external support. MacGregor depended heavily on costly system integrators to make small changes.
The legacy platform was a barrier to growth. MacGregor needed a modern, mobile-first ecommerce solution that could integrate seamlessly with INFOR CSD, support UK compliance, and scale across business units.
Solution
Znode was selected for its flexible, independent architecture and ability to integrate with INFOR CSD via APIs. The platform’s mobile-first design significantly improved the user experience, helping to increase conversion rates and reduce friction during checkout.
To resolve the need for manual order entry, Znode integrated orders directly into INFOR CSD. This eliminated the time-consuming process of rekeying orders, reducing errors and easing operational strain during peak seasons. Automating this critical workflow helped free up internal resources and supported faster, more reliable order fulfillment.
Znode also delivered real-time integration of key business data, including inventory, product details, and pricing. This ensured that buyers saw accurate information at all times, replacing the static updates that previously led to mismatches and delays. With live data flowing between systems, MacGregor improved inventory accuracy.
To address the lack of customer self-service, MacGregor enabled Znode features that allow users to track orders, view past purchases, and reorder without assistance. These tools empowered buyers, particularly school administrators and repeat customers, to manage their own purchasing needs.
The platform also supported GDPR compliance through integrations with iUbenda and enhanced address accuracy with Loqate. These capabilities helped MacGregor deliver a more seamless and compliant shopping experience.
Znode’s multi-store functionality supports MacGregor’s long-term digital strategy to centralize management of multiple business units on a single platform. Key enhancements like VAT support, flexible transactional emails, and a native pickup-at-store option helped meet operational needs while preparing for future growth. To improve fulfillment, MacGregor used Znode’s custom tables to control shipping and warehouse logic, replacing manual processes and increasing delivery accuracy in complex regions.
Following the success of the Schoolwear implementation, MacGregor is now expanding its use of Znode to support its Industrial Supplies division. It will leverage the same scalable architecture, self-service features, and streamlined workflows to enable faster, more efficient digital transformation across business units.
